Considering Microsoft already makes a small fortune of Android, we suppose it’s only natural they actually have a few handsets that run off of the OS.Taking to the (currently MS run) Nokia Conversations blog, Microsoft Mobile has now dropped hints about the possibility of a new “Nokia” X phone in a new ‘green’ image, which is followed by a countdown timer that will end on June 24th.
Despite receiving lukewarm reception among Android users, the Nokia X has actually sold relatively well in Asia and other markets, so it’s no shock that Microsoft Mobile wants to keep the momentum going. What’s unclear is whether or not the phone will retain the “Nokia X” branding now that Nokia and Microsoft Mobile (formerly Nokia’s handset division) are no longer directly related.
It’s certainly possible that Microsoft will be able to use the “Nokia X” brand, regardless of the fact that what remains of Nokia likely isn’t involved in this project. On the other hand, the phone could also end up as the Microsoft X — though that would certainly be a bit confusing with the existence of the Xbox brand.
As for the specs? While today’s teaser tells of nothing, previous rumors claim the handset will continue to offer modest specs such as a dual-core 1.2GHz CPU, a 4.3-inch display and 1GB RAM.
