Iliad looking to Google & Microsoft for help in T-Mobile bid

Iliad, the French telecom company, is said to be raising financial support from both Microsoft and Google to acquire T-Mobile. Iliad’s initial offer of $33 per share to was rejected immediately.

Google being interested in a wireless carrier would not be that big of a surprise.

“Google wants everything moved to an Internet protocol standard,” one telecom expert said. “I’ve been waiting for Google to make a move.” - New York Post

The advantages of having a Google/Microsoft team behind a carrier to fight the duopoly of AT&T and Verizon are growing by the day. A company like Google would love to get their hands on T-Mobile’s spectrum so that they could expand services such as streaming TV through the internet.
