We’ve seen Microsoft’s Scroogled campaign attack just about everything Google-related under the sun from Chrome ads to Gmail, Google Search to Google Docs — but now they’ve hit apparently hit a new low. Microsoft isn’t’t content with spreading misinformation or half-truths about Google, they want to make money while doing it. Microsoft’s store has now introduced a whole section of anti-Google hats, shirts, hoodies and mugs. No, we aren’t joking.
The price ranges go anywhere from $ 7.99 for a mug to $ 25.99 for a hoodie. Maybe it’s just me, but this just seems wrong. It’s one thing to target your competition through advertising, it’s another to profit from what basically boils down to a smear campaign.
Honestly, enough is enough Microsoft! While I will admit that I’ve found some of Microsoft’s commercials funny and even sort of laughed at their parody of a Chrome ad, this type of advertising is only further hurting your reputation.
Instead of pointing out Google’s alleged privacy issues and “data stealing”, why don’t you instead create some kind of campaign showcasing how you don’t invade our privacy or steal data? No, don’t want to go down that road? Didn’t think so.
What do you think of the Microsoft’s attempt directly profit from the Scroogled campaign via merchandise? Not a big deal, or a whole new low? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
